Leadership isn’t always easy; even Moses sometimes needs help. In this week’s Torah portion from the Book of Numbers, B’haalot’cha, we read that Adonai says to Moses, “Gather for Me seventy elders and officers of the people, and bring them to the Tent of Meeting and let them take their place there with you… they shall share the burden of the people with you, and you shall not bear it alone” (Num. 11:16,18). The use here of the word “burden” denotes responsibility. Then, as now, the responsibility of governance can not rest with one individual. This is especially true in the case of Temple leadership. So much needs to be done to keep our community functioning smoothly and effectively, that it takes many individuals to deal with the tasks of running our community.
Installation of our new Board of Directors and Temple Officers will take place at this week’s Shabbat service. It is an opportunity for all of us to show gratitude and support for the time and effort these dedicated Temple leaders devote to our community. Please make every effort to attend.
