Home > Rabbi's Message > Combating a Modern-Day Plague

Last Saturday March for Our Lives demonstrations across the country refocused our
collective attention on the issue of gun violence prevention. I was privileged to attend the march in Long Beach with more than 35 members of Am Echad. Our Temple was represented in many of the marches which took place that day, including New York City, Washington, DC and in Florida.

As we prepare to gather with family and friends and celebrate our liberation from bondage in Egypt, we can’t help but think of gun violence as a modern-day plague. We must find a way to reduce the number of senseless shootings and deaths that afflict our nation. We must say “Enough is Enough.” It is my hope that over the course of the next few months, through programs at Temple and in other ways, we will educate ourselves on the issues surrounding gun violence. In so doing, may we heed Judaism’s prophetic call to create a safer and just world.

Chag Pesach Sameach!
