The greatness of Judaism, according to Rabbi Jonathan Sacks, “is not simply in its noble vision of a free, just and compassionate society, but in the way it brings this vision down to earth,” which is accomplished through detailed legislation. That God is in the details, is a lesson from this week’s Torah portion, Mishpatim.
A parallel exists in our service to God through Temple life. Our participation can range from the big picture of worshipping as a community, to the smaller, yet just as important, day-to-day aspects of volunteering at Temple. This weekend’s Journal Gala Dinner honors two Temple leaders who have each served our community in both big and small ways, and we look forward to celebrating their achievements.
