With Labor Day behind us, our Temple calendar gets much busier, and we begin to look
ahead to the many opportunities we’ll have to gather in community. That theme is present in this week’s Torah portion, Nitzavim. The portion begins with the words Atem nitzavim, ‘”You stand together” all of you before Adonai your God.’ We look forward to being together as a sacred community for all of our High Holy Day services, as well as this coming Shabbat when we will gather for a BBQ dinner and a very musical service at Greis Park.

Our weekly Torah portion, from which we also will be reading on Yom Kippur morning, reminds us to “return” to the Eternal our God (Deut. 30:2). Let’s look forward to all of us returning to Temple, including to our Adult Education programs and later this month to the beginning of our Religious School year.

May it be a healthy, peaceful year of blessing for all of us.

L’shanah tovah u’metukah,
Rabbi Bellush
