About Warren Cooper
Warren grew up in Hagerstown, Maryland, where his father's job transferred the Cooper family from Long Island, when he was 10. The family immediately joined Congregation B'nai Abraham - a Temple of 100 families - and the only synagogue in town. If you were Reform, Conservative, or Orthodox - that was the Temple to belong to.
Warren sang in the adult choir- chanted Kol Nidre and was involved in the Temple Youth Group - where he soon became President of that group…so the trend began.
In North Hagerstown High School, Warren was very involved in Student Government and was President of the Washington County Student Government and eventually became Vice President of the Student Government of the State of Maryland. During this time, he also served as Co-Chair of the Senior Prom Committee. Warren continued his education at the University of Maryland, College Park. There he joined Tau Epsilon Phi fraternity and became active in the Executive Committee of the fraternity as well.
With a degree in marketing, he moved to New York on his own, thinking the entire advertising world was waiting for him. After a rude awakening, he landed in the Garment Center selling ladies blouses and sportswear for a number of different firms. After 10 years, it was time to move on and he found himself selling yearbooks to schools in Queens, Bronx and Westchester. As of this writing, he has been doing that for 31 years!!!
Warren, Shari and Justin joined Temple Emanu-El when Justin turned 10 - as it was time to think about Bar Mitzvah. Justin was fortunate to be in a class with 11 other children and Shari and Warren became very good friends with a number of their parents, which led to the first steps of getting more involved in Temple. After being asked by Mike Skolnick to join the Men's Club Board, Warren served for 3 years as a Board member and then served as President for the following 3 years. As President of Men's Club, he served on the Temple Admin Committee and voted as a Board member. The next step was committing to 6 years on the Executive Committee - which brings us to today!! Warren has really enjoyed the experience of Temple leadership and appreciates and thanks all those who have helped him along the way.
