Women of Am Echad
The Women of Am Echad (WAE) is a caring family of women of all ages bonding together in our mutual love of Judaism, our Temple, and its community. We offer a wide variety of programs – both social and educational. In addition, we are a vital component of the Temple community with our ongoing support of projects, donations and gifts to the Temple and our Religious School.
In support of our congregation, we contribute to the synagogue operating fund to provide needed items, such as the High Holy Day Choir, HVAC repairs, new chairs, etc. We provide gifts to welcome new members, and sponsor holiday greetings to the entire Temple family. We donate to the Feed the Hungry Program, College Outreach efforts and Shabbat Onegs. We are involved in all synagogue celebrations, such as decorating the bimah for Sukkot.
We provide holiday treats for our children and gifts to the Bnei Mitzvah and Confirmands. The Religious School is free to call on us for assistance with such events as the Passover model Seder and the Tu B’shevat Seder. We contribute to the Camp Grants and Scholarships and support ONSEY, the Temple Youth Group.
Our membership enjoys a vast variety of stimulating programs such as Rosh Chodesh and book discussions, and opportunities to hear interesting and informative speakers. Our Getaway Retreats, Days of Study and Women’s Seders fulfill our spiritual needs. We also have fun together with events such as Paint or Game Nights, Day at the Races, Spring Dinner and Fashion Show.
WAE reaches out to the needy in our community through our clothing drives, Trash to Treasure sales and holiday donations. Our Social Action agendas include postcard writing campaigns, attending marches and rallies, as well as programs, often in conjunction with other organizations, on timely and pressing topics such as domestic violence.
Members of WAE automatically are also members of Women of Reform Judaism, (WRJ). WRJ represents women in 500 Sisterhoods; 70,000 women coming together to make the world a better place to live in, and to effect change through legislation and education. WAE provides financial support to the WRJ YES fund, the World Union for Progressive Judaism, Women of the Wall and Mazon.
